Narrative of the Young Shepherd

At the center of the enchanting rolling hills, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was unadulterated, simple here yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to look after his flock of rams.
Their soft bleating and the rustling of the wind through the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main associates. Day after day, watching over his wards inculcated in him a notion of tranquil contentment.
However, there were occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plan.
Narratives of wild beasts preying on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.
One afternoon he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but saw no beast.
The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This prank persisted for a few days more. Yet, one morning, a real wolf did attack the herd. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
